THE BATTLE OF RORKE'S DRIFT

THE BRITISH CEMETERY AT RORKE'S DRIFT

Most people have seen that wonderful film "ZULU" where little over one hundred redcoats hold off a massive attack by the Zulu Army, fighting all through the night and into the following morning. But how accurate it is? And why is it that this little action out of the several thousand fought by the British during Queen Victoria's reign, should gain such prominence in the annals of british Military History?

Let us tell about this remarkable battle. Let us tell how just under a hundred men of B Company, 2nd Battalion, 24th Regiment of Foot along with some 30 hospital patients, members of the Army Medical Corp, and Army Commissariat stoically defended themselves for 12 hours against an attack by some 4000 Zulus. Earning 11 Victoria Crosses in the process.

Let us give you some idea of the background to this battle, how they found themselves with little option but to fight. Let us tell of the desperate battle for the hospital under appalling conditions with the roof on fire and Zulus smashing down the external doors. How, despite this, the defenders not only managed to extricate themselves, but most of the patients in their care.

Let us show you with photos and sketches how the battle unfolded as they struggled through the pitch dark night to hold their position, knowing full well there was no one to help them.

The Defence of Rorke's Drift is one of the all inspiring examples of British determination against all odds. A remakable story, so why not let us tell 'What Really Happened at Rorke's Drift'

This presentation takes an hour and a half and comprises a Animated Powerpoint presentation and talk of the events leading up to the Anglo Zulu War and the story of the ill fated Central Column culminating in the Battle of Rorke's Drift and followed by a short video clip of the battle.
The presenter is able to supply a Proxima projector if necessary
